Established as a town council in 2000, Kayunga has grown from a small trading center to a bustling urban center serving as the administrative and commercial hub of Kayunga District. The town council oversees an area of approximately 28 square kilometers with a growing population that reflects Uganda's rapid urbanization.
Our jurisdiction covers both the urban center and surrounding areas, with a focus on providing essential services, infrastructure development, and promoting economic growth while preserving our cultural heritage and natural resources.

We work in partnership with central government ministries, development partners, and community organizations to deliver these services effectively and efficiently.
Trace the evolution of Kayunga from a small trading center to a thriving town council
Kayunga began as a small fishing and farming community along the banks of the River Nile. The area was primarily inhabited by the Baganda people with significant influence from the Busoga Kingdom.
During the British colonial period, Kayunga served as an administrative outpost. The area developed as a minor trading center for cotton and coffee, which were the main cash crops in the region.
After Uganda's independence in 1962, Kayunga continued to grow as a trading center. The town benefited from its strategic location along the Kampala-Jinja highway, facilitating trade between different regions.
Kayunga was officially granted Town Council status, marking a significant milestone in its development. This recognition came with increased administrative responsibilities and funding for urban development.
With the creation of Kayunga District, the town council became the district headquarters, further elevating its administrative importance and accelerating infrastructure development.
Recent years have seen significant infrastructure improvements, including road networks, market modernization, and public facilities. The town continues to grow as a commercial and administrative hub while facing challenges of rapid urbanization.
